Today I planed the 30x10 mm longeron strips to taper the main longerons. In my case, for the tailwheel version, the taper starts just aft of C6 and reduces the longeron linearly to 18 mm at C10.

I chose the center strip for planing. With the linear taper starting at C6, the centre strip tapers to nothing at a distance of 430 mm from C10. From that point on, the inner strip has to be tapered to a final (total) width of 18 mm at C10.

Results

Planing the strips was easier than expected. The work was done within half an hour and I am quite satisfied with the result. The taper looks good and the centre strip becomes very thin at the end. I was curious to see how the wood would behave when planed that thin over such a large area.

Test Fitting

After planing, I test-fitted the longeron strips on the strongback. Everything fits neatly, especially at the aft bulkhead C10.
